Hello andrea, I successfully run CPUShare on VMWare Server 1.0 (available at no charge - register to download) I just created a new VM, did not add any HDDs, gave it 256 MB RAM and told it to use the ISO on CDROM. It booted nicely and started working. However, there is a funny message: "Press CTRL+ALT+CANC to reboot.". Did you mean CTRL+ALT+DEL ? I made screenshots of the machine working and posted it on my blog.
